Bitterblue – 1991

Új évtized, új kiadó, új stílus. Nagyjából ez jellemzi Bonnie Tyler első albumát a német Bertelmanns Music Groupnál. Miután a Hide Your Heart sikerei lecsengtek, és véget ért a CBS-szel való szerződés, Bonnie otthagyta az Egyesült Államokat és visszaköltözött Európába, ahol a legnagyobb szeretettel fogadták őt, és az addig megjelent összes albumát. Németországban bálványként imádták, ezért nem is csoda, hogy egy német lemezkiadóhoz szerződött három album erejéig. Aki Németországba csábította Bonnie-t, és egyben zenei producere is lett, az nem más volt, mint Dieter Bohlen, a Modern Talking egykori énekese. Már 1990-ben elkezdődtek a munkálatok. Először is egy filmbetétdallal, a Breakout-tal. 1991-re elkészült a teljes album a legjobb dalszerző gárdával. Dieter Bohlen mellett dolgozott Nik Kershaw és Giorgio Moroder (aki már 1984-ben is sikeres dalt írt Bonnie-nak). 1991-re elkészült a Bitterblue, amely sajátos Modern Talking pop-rock stílusú lett. Az első sláger rögtön a Where Were You volt, természetesen Bohlen által komponált szerzemény, majd később az Against The Wind ballada, ami egy német sorozat főcímdala lett. Szépen kúsztak felfelé a slágerlistán a dalok, többek között a Bitterblue is, és Tyler sikerei is egyre gyarapodtak. Két duettet is tartalmazott a korong. Heaven Is Here címmel Giorgio Moroder írt egy dalt és vele is lett felénekelve, valamint Dan Hartmannal, a Till the End of Time, ami szintén Moroder szerzeménye. Az album utolsó, igazán szomorú száma a Why, több rajongó véleménye szerint is Bonnie Tyler elvetélt gyermekének állít emléket. Az album egyébként hatalmas sikereket ért el Európában. A siker Bonnie-t és Bohlen-t is egy új album készítésére ösztönözte.
